Kochi Metro Allows Commuters To Carry Their Bicycle In Metro, To Promote Bicycle Connectivity In City

In a move to make Kochi more bicycle friendly, and promote bicycle among citizens of Kochi, Kochi Metro now allows commuters to carry their cycles for free inside metro, ANI reported.

Initially cycles will be permitted in three metro stations, Changampuzha Park, Palarivattom, Town Hall, Ernakulam South, Maharaja’s College, and Elamkulam, and on further demand, more stations will be enabled to carry bicycles, official said.

This will promote the end-to-end transport with a non-motorised transport and will enable a healthy life style to people as well, and people being aware of health and fitness, will encourage people to use cycles during their regular metro commute, said Alkesh Kumar Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary, MD, Kochi Metro.

Commuters can station their cycle at either end of metro, they are allowed to use elevators to carry cycles and metro staff will assist the commuters.

This move has come in, as we noticed bicycle is the most preferred mode of transport, and has become more favourable during pandemic, during the pandemic we also have witnessed bicycle sales have sky rocketed.
