Tata Power, Reliance Industries, Adani Solar are likely to be among the bidders for the contracts under the government’s production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for solar modules, reports Economic Times.
Earlier in June, state-run Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA) had invited bids for setting up solar manufacturing units under the PLI scheme.
The Rs 4,500 crore PLI scheme for solar photo voltaic modules will help India ramp up its domestic manufacturing capacity and is expected to add 10-gigawatt (GW) capacity of integrated solar PV manufacturing plants.
ET quoted a senior government official as saying that major firms are evincing interest and are expected to commit to end-to-end solar manufacturing.
According to the report, the firms have submitted about 18 bids of nearly 40 GW till Sunday (19 September) for the scheme.
“We can accommodate maximum 10 Gw. Many players are committing to set up fully integrated plant from polysilicon to module against our expectations of beginning with wafers to modules,” the official was quoted as saying.
The PLI scheme for domestic manufacturing of high efficiency solar PV module was approved by the Union Cabinet in April. The scheme is expected to bring direct investment of around Rs 17,200 crore in solar PV manufacturing.
