In accordance with new lockdown measures, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has announced raised timings of metro services.
Delhi Metro services are available during morning from 7 am to 11 am, and evening from 4 pm to 8 pm at frequency of 15 minutes considering the peak hour demands, while for the rest of day, metro services will run at frequency of 60 minutes.
DMRC stated that the services can be availed only by exempted category of people upon production of valid identity cards.
DMRC has closed entry points to several metro stations in order to strictly limit crowding and maintain social distancing.
Entry is closed following stations, Shadipur, Dwarka mor, Tagore Garden, Rajouri Garden, Patel Nagar, Subhash Nagar, Kirti Nagar, Rajendra Place, Moti Naga Jhandewalan, R K Ashram Marg, Karkardooma, Preet Vihar Nirman Vihar, Supreme Court, Anand Vihar ISBT and Vaishali however exits are opened.
To offer more capacity in compliance to social distancing regulations, metros will run at 50 per cent capacity with no provision for standing.
Addressing the live television, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, Delhi’s health system is at a tipping point and Covid-19 situation is critical, and if we don’t impose a lockdown now, we are looking at a bigger disaster, from tonight there will be a lockdown until next Monday.
He also said that, businesses would be shut and movement of people across city would be limited to essential services only.
Delhi is seeing 25,000 new cases everyday, and city’s health system is stretched and not collapsed yet, he said during a press conference.
