In a tourism and connectivity boost for Arunachal Pradesh’s picturesque town of Tawang, Chief Minister (CM) Pema Khandu has cleared the proposal by North East Frontier Railway (NFR) to implement a Toy Train project, reports The Economic Times.

This clearance comes after NFR’s general manager Anshul Gupta called on CM Khandu with the proposal. Gupta told the latter that if the State Government gives a green signal, the NFR will immediately start the groundwork for the project.

CM Khandu welcomed the proposal. He suggested the NFR officials coordinate with the district administration for logistical support. He assured coordination from the State Government’s end.

The project envisages a tourist-centric service in and around the Tawang township. It also includes a park with facilities like food centres, craft bazaar, et cetera.

As per the details shared in the proposal, each toy train would have at least three bogies, each of which will have a capacity for 12 passengers.

To get the work going, a team of officials and engineers from NFR are set to visit Tawang next week for a joint survey and finalisation of the project with the district administration.
