Indian Railways Suffered Rs 36k Crore Loss During COVID-19 Pandemic, Shares Union Minister Raosaheb Danve

Union Minister Raosaheb Danve yesterday (22 August) shared that the Indian Railways has suffered losses to the tune of Rs 36,000 crore during the COVID-19 pandemic, reports The Economic Times.

Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of an underbridge at Maharashtra’s Jalna railway station, Danve also shared that goods trains have been the real revenue generators for the national transporter during this course. He said, “During the pandemic, these trains played an important role in carrying goods and providing relief to people.”

Danve also said that a bullet train project would be executed along the under-construction Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway.

Danve also emphasised that the Indian Railways has undertaken the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor project, which will connect Navi Mumbai to Delhi.

Maharashtra’s Health Minister Rajesh Tope was also present at the event. At the event, Tope said that the State Government had sanctioned a hospital in Jalna to treat those suffering from mental illnesses. He said that the facility would benefit the Marathwada region.
