A total of 88,236 existing Government funded vacant houses are available to be converted into Affordable Rental Housing Complexes (ARHC) for rental accommodation to migrants under Model-1 of the ARHC Scheme announced under Atma Nirbhar Bharat package.
This information was given by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Kaushal Kishore, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Thursday (29 July).
The objectives of the ARHC Scheme include creating a sustainable ecosystem of affordable rental housing solutions for urban migrants and the poor and achieving the overall aim of ‘Housing for All.’
“Initial affordable rent of ARHCs will be fixed by the local authority based on a local survey prior to the issuance of Request for Proposal (RFP) by Urban Local Bodies (ULBs),” Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs said.
“Subsequently, rent will be enhanced biennially by 8 per cent, subject to maximum increase of 20 per cent in aggregate, over a period of five years, effective from the date of signing the contract. The same mechanism shall be followed over the entire concession period i.e. 25 years,” it added.
While there are no vacant houses available in Telangana for rental accommodation to migrants under Model-1, 29,112 houses in Delhi and 32,345 houses in Maharashtra are available for migrants under Model-I of the ARHC scheme.
