After repeated incidents of electric two-wheelers catching fire, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has called for advance action by companies to recall all defective batches of Electric Vehicles.

After several mishaps involving electric two-wheelers in the last two months, Gadkari took to Twitter to inform that an expert panel has been constituted by the ministry to look into the incidents.

In a series of tweets, the minister said, “It is most unfortunate that some people have lost their lives and several have been injured in these incidents”.

“We have constituted an Expert Committee to enquire into these incidents and make recommendations on remedial steps. Based on the reports, we will issue necessary orders on the defaulting companies,” he said.

“We will soon issue quality-centric guidelines for Electric Vehicles,” the minister added.

If any company is found negligent in their processes, a heavy penalty will be imposed and a recall of all defective vehicles will also be ordered, Gadkari said.

He said that the companies may take advance action to recall all defective batches of vehicles immediately.

Gadkari stressed that the government is committed to ensure safety of each and every commuter.
