The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) declared Larsen & Toubro as the lowest bidder on Thursday (12 January) for the construction of a new bridge between Nariman Point and Cuffe Parade (near Colaba).

This 1.77 km four-lane bridge will connect Marine Drive, where the 29.80 km Mumbai Coastal Road ends further north, with Captain Prakash Pethe Marg near Cuffe Parade Station, the southern terminus of Mumbai Metro’s Aqua Line (Line-3).

MMRDA had invited tenders for its civil construction in November 2022, with a Rs 315 crore budget on an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) basis.

This project will be Mumbai’s third sea link at the southern tip of Mumbai after the Bandra-Worli and Sewri-Nhava Sheva bridges.

To relieve traffic congestion in Mumbai’s southern business district, the 2008 Comprehensive Transport Study (CTS) proposed a Cuffe Parade-Nariman Point bridge.
