Noida’s planning department has been made the nodal agency for the work on the uniform policy.

It aims to bring uniformity in the planning and policies of the authorities — including public transport, road construction, and traffic connectivity, as well as economic development, investment, and employment opportunities.

The Infrastructure and Industrial Development Commissioner has directed the Noida Authority to create a common policy for the regions under three industrial authorities — Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna Authority.

The policy will be based on the concept of regional economic geography, which aims to bring uniformity in the planning and policies of the authorities — including public transport, road construction, and traffic connectivity, as well as economic development, investment, and employment opportunities.

Currently, projects are more authority-centric than people-centric, which hinders the overall development of the region, reports Times of India.

Noida’s planning department has been made the nodal agency for the work on the uniform policy.

During the Noida board meeting on 29 April, the Industrial Development Commissioner, Manoj Kumar Singh, directed the Noida planning department to consider the three industrial development authorities as a contiguous area and prepare a long-term plan for their sustainable development, while keeping in view the best practices adopted in different countries.

The authority was also directed to speed up its efforts, by coordinating at the authority level, to resolve the builder-buyer problems.

Keshav Verma, the chairman of a high-level committee on urban development constituted last year by the Centre to recommend urban planning reforms, gave a detailed presentation on the regional economic geography during the board meeting.

Verma is an advisor in the UP urban development department.

Leenu Sehgal, GM (planning) and the nodal officer for drawing up the common policy, said that regional economic geography focuses on sustainable urban development and examines the economic conditions of particular regions.

She believes that the plan is to provide seamless connectivity to all the areas being developed as one big metropolitan area.

Sehgal further added that they are planning to prepare a plan for the next 50 years and decide what could be the best modes of transport and connectivity for these industrial districts, as per the report.

She added, “Also, coming up are new industrial hubs, like Dadri-Noida-Ghaziabad Investment Region (DNGIR). Additionally, the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar has led to development activities along the Yamuna Expressway. So, we have been asked to formulate a policy keeping all these developments in mind.”

Furthermore, Noida authority will hire an agency to conduct surveys and prepare reports.
