The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) recently sent a letter to the Pune Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (PUMTA) stating that the proposed 1.7 km double-decker flyover from the Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk (SPPU) to the E-square junction for the third metro line would be completed by November next year.

This double-decker flyover is a part of the third metro line from Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar, which would have both the metro line on top and four ramps below to connect three roads on Ganeshkhind Road.

The double-decker flyover would connect the crown jewel of Pune, the Savitribai Phule Pune University, to the IT hubs of Hinjawadi, Baner and Balewadi.

The proposed project would be pivotal in saving time and reducing traffic congestion by constructing a dedicated double-decker flyover lane for metro commuters. The flyover would reduce the travel time to less than half.

The PMRDA officials mentioned that the concessionaire, Tata, has expressed its inability to finish the work by January 2024.

Delayed permissions for barricading along the stretch and not being allowed to work 24/7 could lead to delays in work. Also, the non-availability of alternative routes would result in its completion in November 2024 instead of January next year.

The PMRDA official stated, “the November 2024 deadline can be met provided the permissions for safety barricades and alternative routes are in place, the concessionaire has mentioned in its communication to the authority,” as per the Times Of India report.
