Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway to the nation during his visit to Karnataka on Sunday (12 March).
The project involves six-laning of the Bengaluru-Nidaghatta-Mysuru section of NH-275.
The 118 Km long project has been developed at a total cost of around Rs 8,480 crores.
The expressway will reduce the travel time between Bengaluru and Mysuru from around 3 hours to about 75 minutes. It will act as a catalyst for socio-economic development in the region.
With most portions of the expressway open for vehicular traffic, the opening of the 7-km-long Srirangapatna bypass in February, marked the completion of the project.
While the Srirangapatna Bypass was opened for commuters on 28 January, another critical link — the Mandya bypass — was opened three days before that.
The 10-lane expressway (two-lane service roads on both sides) was conceptualised and executed as two distinct packages: 58 km Phase-1 between Bengaluru and Nidaghatta and 61 km Phase-2 between Nidaghatta and Mysore.
The expressway comprises of 8-km-long elevated corridors, nine major bridges, 42 minor bridges, 64 underpasses, 11 overpasses, four Road-Over-Bridges (ROBs) and five bypasses.
The expressway comprises six bypasses at Bidadi (7 km), Ramanagara and Channapatna (22 km), Maddur (7 km), Mandya (10 km) and Srirangapatna (7km).
The expressway originates near the NICE Road on the outskirts of Bengaluru and terminates near the Outer Ring Road junction in Mysuru.
During his visit to Karnataka, PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone for Mysuru-Khushalnagar four-lane highway.
Spread over 92 Km, the project will be developed at a cost of around Rs 4,130 crore.
The project will play a key role in boosting connectivity of Kushalnagar with Bengaluru and will help halve the travel time from about 5 to only 2.5 hours.
