DFCCIL has awarded the development of Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal, at the New Rewari station of DFC, to Pristine Mega Logistics Park Private Ltd.

The terminal is expected to cater to container traffic including Double Stack Container trains.

The Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal Policy has been introduced by Indian Railways in order to give a fillip to cargo handling, with the establishment of modern terminals.

The terminal would have road connectivity to the Rewari — Narnaul State Highway. According to an estimate, a growth of around 30 per cent in container traffic is expected.

This terminal can function as a logistics hub under the “Hub-and-Spoke” policy of Indian Railways for EXIM, as well as, domestic container traffic.

Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) has commissioned a total of 1,724 km long freight corridors till January 2023, with expenditure of Rs 97,957 crore.

Railways has taken up construction of two Dedicated Freight Corridors — Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) from Ludhiana to Sonnagar (1,337 km) and the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Terminal (JNPT) to Dadri (1,506 km).

As of now, 861 km on EDFC and 863 km on WDFC has been completed.

Dedicated Freight Corridors will promote industrial activities and development of new industrial hubs and townships.

National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC), under the Ministry of Commerce, is implementing a number of projects along the corridor, for development of Integrated Industrial Townships.

The logistic sector will benefit significantly, with the development of new freight terminals, Multimodal Logistic parks and Inland Container Depots — creating direct and indirect employment in the project-influence areas.

Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Howrah are already linked through the existing Indian Railway network. The connectivity of Delhi, Mumbai and Howrah area will be further strengthened with commissioning of the DFC project.
