The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has made commercially operational an additional 42.5 MW of power generation capacity at Ramagundam floating solar project in Telangana.
Earlier, the company had commissioned 17.5 MW (Part-I) and 20 MW (Part-II) of the project.
With the addition of 42.5 MW, the total commercially operational power generation capacity of Ramagundam floating solar project has reached 80 MW, the Ministry of Power said in a release on Friday (25 March).
The Ramagundam project is of 100 MW capacity and is built with a cost of Rs 423 crore. It is spread across 450 acres on the waters of a reservoir constructed to meet the needs of the thermal power plant.
This project will be the largest floating solar plant in the country in a single location.
Besides producing clean power, the project will also reduce water evaporation by providing shade to the covered area. It will also have a higher yield as compared to conventional ground-mounted projects due to the cooling effect.
