Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is planning to construct an integrated metro station at Iblur on the Outer Ring Road (ORR).

The proposed integrated metro station will connect the ORR-Central Silk Board-KR Puram line and the recently announced Sarjapur to Hebbal metro line.

Iblur station will develop at the ORR median and is dispersed over the defence land. The Defence Ministry has given BMRCL in-principle approval for land at Iblur, which has expedited the process.

Iblur’s interchange will make it easier for ORR commuters to go to areas around the central business district, including Town Hall, Central College, Cunningham Road, etc.

“Iblur will have a single station for two Metro lines: Phase 2A (Outer Ring Road: Central Silk Board-KR Puram) and Phase 3A (36km Sarjapur-Hebbal). It will be a combined/monolithic structure unlike RV Road station (interchange of Green and Yellow Lines). The design of the station is being finalised,” said BMRCL managing director Anjum Parwez, reports Economic Times.

The ORR Metro and Sarjapur Metro viaducts will run parallel between Agara and Iblur.

Considering the future plan for the Sarjapur to Hebbal metro, the BMRCL engineering section has recommended the acquisition of over two acres of land for integration.

The DPR for the Sarjapur Metro is being prepared and is scheduled to be finished within a year.

The state government announced in its budget for 2022-23 that BMRCL will build a new metro line from Sarjapur to Hebbal. The 37-kilometre route will pass through Agara, Koramangala, Dairy Circle, Central College and Mehkri Circle. It is to be developed at a cost of Rs 15,000 crore.

The Sarjapur Metro corridor will have an elevated portion from Sarjapur to Jakkasandra and an underground portion from Koramangala to Hebbal.

BMRCL has yet to set a deadline for Sarjapur, whereas the ORR Metro has one set for December 2024.

In addition to Iblur, the BMRCL is facilitating the building of an integrated metro station in Kempapura to connect the ORR-Airport line with Namma Metro phase III.

BMRCL will also build a new metro line from Kempapura to JP Nagar as part of Namma Metro phase III.

Once finished, the city will have a circular metro line that runs along the ORR.

BMRCL proposed another line from Namma Metro Hosahalli station to Kadabagere as part of phase III. Both lines will be about 42 kilometres long in total.
