The Central Railway (CR) recently announced that their vistadome coaches have been a huge hit among passengers — with over 63,000 people travelling in them on nine trains.
In addition, the Vande Bharat Express trains running on its network have been attracting impressive crowds, according to railway authorities.
From November 2022 to April 2023, the vistadome coaches recorded a total of 63,307 passengers, bringing in a revenue of Rs 8.41 crore for the CR.
One of the noteworthy mentions was the Pune-Mumbai Pragati Express, where the installed coach recorded an occupancy rate above 100 per cent from Pune to Mumbai.
Similarly, the Mumbai-Pune Deccan Express with a vistadome coach installed, recorded a 98.8 per cent occupancy rate with a passenger traffic of over 15,000, earning a revenue of Rs 1.18 crore.
The vistadome coaches apart from having a glass roof top have a number of other features like wide window panes, LED lights, rotatable seats and pushback chairs, electrically operated automatic sliding compartment doors, wide side sliding doors, and a viewing gallery.
Presently, well-known trains like Mumbai-Madgaon Janshatabdi Express, the Deccan Queen, Pune-Secunderabad Shatabdi Express additionally have these coaches, enhancing the overall travel experience for passengers.
Furthermore, the latest data from CR reveals the impressive occupancy rates of Vande Bharat trains in May 2023.
Among the three Vande Bharat Express trains operating on the network — the Solapur- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) train achieved the highest occupancy during this month.
The other two semi-high speed Vande Bharat trains operated by CR run on the Mumbai-Sainagar Shirdi and Nagpur-Bilaspur routes.
The Solapur-CSMT Vande Bharat Express registered top occupancy of 125.23 per cent, followed by CSMT-Solapur Vande Bharat Express at 119.45 per cent this month, it said in a release.
The Bilaspur-Nagpur and Nagpur-Bilaspur Vande Bharat Express trains registered 97.92 per cent and 95.08 per cent occupancy, respectively.
CSMT-Sainagar and Sainagar-CSMT Vande Bharat trains recorded 93 per cent and 84 per cent occupancy, respectively.
The CSMT-Solapur and CSMT-Sainagar Shirdi Vande Bharat trains were inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 10 February, 2023.
Prior to that, the Nagpur-Bilaspur Vande Bharat Express was flagged off by Prime Minister Modi on 11 December, 2022.
