The expansion work is expected to commence in January 2024 and will be finished within a timeframe of 24-36 months.
The Belagavi Airport expansion project has received administrative approval from the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
The AAI has also issued a tender for the upgrade works, which include the expansion of the passenger terminal building, apron, runway, aerobridges, and other facilities at Belagavi Airport in Karnataka.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs 229.57 Crore.
The AAI has recently called for Architectural Consultancy Services for the construction of new terminal buildings and miscellaneous works at Belagavi Airport. The completion period for this project is set at 36 months.
The tender for the upgrade works covers both Belagavi and Hubballi airports. The total estimated cost of the project is Rs 457.72 crore, which includes Rs 228.15 crore for Hubbali and 229.57 crore for Belagavi. This cost is inclusive of all taxes but excludes GST.
Once the expansion is completed, the new terminal building at Belagavi Airport will cover an area of 20,000 sqmt (ground+first floor), including both the new and existing terminals. It will be equipped with modern facilities and three aero-bridges.
The enlarged terminal is expected to handle 1,400 peak-hour passengers, with 700 arrivals and 700 departures.
Following the completion of the architectural drawings and structural specifications, the project will be put up for bidding. The expansion work is expected to commence in January 2024 and will be finished within a timeframe of 24-36 months.
The current terminal building, which was inaugurated on 14 September 2017, covers an area of 3,600 square meters. It has the capacity to accommodate more than 300 passengers and is equipped with two baggage conveyor belts and six check-in counters.
The terminal also includes an apron that can accommodate three Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft for parking. Additionally, there is an older apron with two parking stands specifically designed for the ATR 72 and similar aircraft.
Furthermore, there are two additional aprons: one on the north side of the runway that serves as an isolation bay, and another on the south side. These aprons are connected to runway 08/26 by single taxiways.
