In its continuous endeavor to enhance passenger convenience by implementing digital and seamless means of travel, Delhi Metro on Thursday (3 August) extended the option of payment by Unified Payments Interface (UPI) at its TVMs (Ticket Vending Machine) and ticket/customer care counters across the network.
With this upgradation of machines at its stations across the Delhi-NCR network, passengers can now make payments to recharge smart cards/purchase metro QR tickets using UPI – supported mobile applications through smart phones as is done nowadays in every walk of life, be it at shopping malls, grocery store, vegetable vendor etc.
The option eliminates the need to carry cash or debit/credit cards and thereby reducing the load on their wallets.
DMRC was the first Metro system in the country to initially start this UPI facility on select TVMs on Noida and Ghaziabad section in 2018 which is now being extended further on the network.
With the current exercise, TVMs at over 125 stations have already been upgraded across the Metro network offering faster, more convenient and secure mode of payment to streamline ticketing services and contribute to the overall modernization of public transportation in Delhi/NCR while the remaining TVMs with UPI facility will be extended within a week’s time.
For the present upgrade, DMRC engaged the consortium of M/s Revenue Collection Systems (Thales), France SAS and M/S Paytm Payments Bank Limited for executing this upgrade of complete ecosystem of Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system which enables travel through QR Tickets, NCMC etc.
DMRC in the recent past has already launched various other initiatives to facilitate easy top up of smart cards/sale of tickets to avoid queues and save time at stations.
This includes the option of mobile QR tickets through Metro Travel App; Whatsapp based ticketing on Airport Line, net banking using dmrcsmartcard.com, mobile wallets, NCMC compliant cards etc.
This extended facility was launched by Vikas Kumar, Managing Director, DMRC from Rajiv Chowk Metro station. Jean-Marc Reynaud, MD, M/s Revenue Collection Systems (Thales), France SAS andAbhay Sharma, Chief Business Officer, M/s Paytm Payments Bank Limited and other senior DMRC officials were also present on the occasion.
