Infrastructure sector received a huge booost in annual state budget for the financial year 2020-21 presented by Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh (UP) government on Tuesday (18 February) as with thrust placed on developing metro networks, greenfield airports and expressways, besides fixing a target to build four lakh houses for weaker sections by March 2021
The UP government’s total budget outlay for the upcoming year is Rs 5.12 Lakh crore, which is Rs 33,159 crore higher than last year.
The new state budget has laid a special emphasis on infrastructure and job creation. Rs 10,967.87 crore has been earmarked for new schemes to this regard.
With regards to infrastructure development, Rs 900 crore has been allocated for the development of Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System. Rs 200 crore will be used to develop metro facilities in Gorakhpur and other cities.
Additional, Rs 358 crore has been sanctioned for the development of Kanpur Metro. The ambitious Jewar International Airport project in Greater Noida has been Rs 2,000 crore. Rs 500 crore have been allocated for an airport in Ayodhya.
Additionally Rs 4,000 crore has been allocated for the Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyaan which seeks to improve nutrition among children, pregnant and lactating women.
The Swachh Bharat Mission has been allocated Rs 5,800 crore and Rs 20,000 crore has been earmarked for smart city projects in cities like Lucknow and Kanpur.
