Nitin Gadkari Laid Foundation For Nine National Highway Projects in Tripura, Boost Regional Connectivity, Trade And Tourism

North-eastern state Tripura is to get huge infrastructure boost, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways has laid foundation for nine National Highway projects worth Rs. 2752 crore, covering distance of 262 Km, this will make Tripura Gateway to centre’s Act East Policy.

This will not only boost road connectivity in Tripura and add to Tourism, but will also connect with Bangladesh.

The projects are intended to connect to various tourist attractions in Tripura and North east India, religious and historic places. These projects is also expected to increase transport of agriculture goods, increase access to markets, decrease travel time and fuel consumption, thus minimising overall costs of goods and services and increase consumption.

These projects will add 262 Kms to existing 850 kms of National Highways in state, of which 300 Kms have been added in previous 6 years only.

Union Minister for Development of North East Region (DoNER), Jitendra Singh, said under prime minister’s vision of New India, North East India will play an important role, since 2014 major development steps are being taken, states are witnessing serious development in par with other western states of India, and centre is committed to development of eight states in the region.

He further added, soon there will be a new train to Bangladesh from Tripura, a new chapter in development of the region by providing access to seaports.

Speaking at same event, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said, people of Tripura are indebted to centre for having prioritised Tripura for development, these road developments will be boon for people as this will provide all weather connectivity in hilly and rainy states.

These projects will be major addition to state’s GDP and regional economy. The list of nine projects include. (list referred from Financial Express)

  • 4 km long Jolaibari – Belonia section of NH-108A, worth Rs 201.99 crore
  • 60 km long Kailashahar – Kumarghat section of NH-208, worth Rs 277.50 crore
  • 90 km long Khayerpur – Amtali section (Agartala bypass) of NH-08, worth Rs 147 crore
  • 80 km long Agartala – Khowai section of NH-108B (three packages), worth Rs 480.19 crore
  • 46 km long Kailashahar – Kurti bridge of NH-208A (three packages), worth Rs 473.49 crore
  • 54 km long Manu – Simlung section of NH-44A (two packages), worth Rs 595.12 crore
  • Two RCC Bridges over river Muhuri and over river Gomati, worth Rs 83.06 crore
  • 85 km long Churaibari – Agartala section strengthening with paved shoulder of NH-08, worth Rs 257.96 crore
  • Geometric improvement on 21.789 km long Churaibari – Agartala section of NH-44, worth Rs 236.18 crore
