Kempegowda International Airport, Bangalore will be connected by Indian railways, commuters will able to take train to airport starting from January 4, 2021, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said.
South Western Railway Zone will operate three pairs of DEMU services from Bangalore city to Kempegowda International Airport, Devanhalli Halt station (KIAD), other than DEMU services. Yesvantpur-Bangarpet train and Bengaluru cantonment Bangarpet Yesvantpur KSR DEMU train will halt at new airport station.
Five trains will commute from city to airport for next month, until further notice, this is first of non-road commute option to the Airport from city, ticket fare is very low from Rs. 10 to 15.
Indian railways said, South Western Railway and Bengaluru International Airport Ltd. (BIAL) have partnered to set up railway station in Devanhalli near airport, and have consulted with Airport authorities to schedule train timings.
This economical and faster commute option is very beneficial to daily commuting airport staff to and from Bengaluru, while other modes, shuttle bus cost Rs. 150 onwards and Cabs cost Rs. 800 onwards.
As part of recently approved plan of dedicated sub-urban railway, another rail line will be laid from city to airport, which will enable faster and more frequent trains and proposed metro line connecting airport is to be approved by union government soon.
Minister of Railways, Piyush Goyal tweeted, this will go a long way in enhancing last-mile connectivity and de-congesting Bengaluru vehicular traffic conditions.

“As we all know, Kempegowda International Airport is one of the biggest and busiest airports in our country. Reaching this airport had always been a problem for air travellers. From some areas of Bangalore it would take one and a half to two hours. Given the traffic situation in Bangalore, it was a real problem to reach the airport. To eliminate this problem, BIAL and south western railways have partnered to provide a halt station that is very close to the airport. The railways provided the land. The airport authorities have constructed the station. To serve this station exclusively, we are running 5 pairs of trains. Two are from Majestic – that is KSR, Bengaluru. One will be from Yelahanka. The ticket fare, as is always the case with Railways, is very low. Ticket fare from Bangalore station is ₹10. If it goes via Cantonment Station it is ₹15.” Vijaya, Deputy General Manager and Chief Public Relations Officer at South western Railways, mentioned.
Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa also tweeted, than Bengalureans can now take train to Kempegowda International Airport.
