Today, Prime Minister (PM) Modi performed the Bhoomi Poojan of Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-II and Surat Metro Rail Project via video conferencing. The projects are aimed to provide an environment friendly ‘Mass Rapid Transit System’ to these cities.
The Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-II has two corridors and is 28.25-km long. Corridor-1 from Motera Stadium to Mahatma Mandir is 22.8-km long. Corridor-2 from GNLU to GIFT City is 5.4-km long. The cost of Phase-II project is estimated at Rs 5,384 crore.
The Surat Metro Rail Project also comprises of two corridors. Corridor-1 from Sarthana to Dream City is 21.61-km long. Corridor-2 from Bhesan to Saroli is 18.74-km long. The total completion cost of the project Rs 12,020 crore.
Ahead of the Poojan ceremony, the PM had called it a landmark day for India’s two urban centres, reports TOI.
The metro will provide comfortable, affordable and hassle-free connectivity to the residents of the two cities, and reduce traffic congestion and the travel time.
