The first textile parcel train was flagged off on Saturday (4 September) in Udhna new goods shed by Darshana Jardosh, the Minister of State for Railways.
The Textile Parcel special train consisting of 25 NMG wagons was run for the first time from Udhna new goods shed in Gujarat carrying textile material to Patna and Muzaffarpur.
This train service would benefit the textile market of the Surat area as it’s economical, faster, and safer than other modes of transport.
“This has in turn provided an opportunity for tapping the huge potential of the textile market and will cater to the transportation needs of textile industry godown hubs in & around Surat city,” an official release said.
Recently, Western Railway (WR) ‘s Mumbai Division transported textile weighing 202.4 tonnes from Chalthan to Shalimar, Kolkata, for the first time.
A total of four terminals in the Mumbai Division, namely Surat, Udhna New Goods shed, Chalthan and Gangadhara, have been nominated and available for handling such type of traffic for NMG wagons loading.
In FY22 so far, Western Railway has transported commodities weighing more than 1.1 Lakh tonnes through its various parcel special trains, including agricultural produce, medicines, medical equipment, fish, milk etc.
The revenue generated through this transportation has been around Rs 40.78 crore. Also, 77 Milk Special trains were run by Western Railway, with a load of almost 54 thousand tonnes and 100 per cent utilization of the wagons.
