Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), an ambitious project to provide tap water connections to all rural households was launched in 2019, and has 38 per cent (21.4 per cent households) have been given with tap water connection since 2019.
State of Haryana plans to provide tap water connections to all rural households by November 22, Union Territory of Ladakh will provide 32,514 connections in this financial year and another 11,568 connections in year 2022 to cover 100 per cent of rural households in UT, similar state of Odisha will achieve by year 2024.
Other states including Sikkim and Tripura have iterated their commitment to accomplish ‘Har Ghar Jal’ mission through JJM before 2024.
“During the presentation, the State of Haryana reiterated their commitment to achieve the JJM target by 1st November 2022 i.e. Haryana Day, much ahead of the national deadline. Odisha plans for 100% saturation by 2024,” the ministry of Jal Shakti said in a statement on Tuesday.
Statement also said, “Haryana state has 31.03 lakh rural households, out of which 26.93 lakh (86.8%) rural households are provided with tap connections as on 31st March 2021. In 2021-22, the State plans to provide 4.09 lakh tap connections”.
The statement from Jal Shakti ministry also listed, Rs. 50,000 Crore budgetary for JJM in Fy 21-22, and another Rs. 26,940 Crore additional funds assured under the 15th Finance Commission for JJM, tied grants to RLBs/ PRIs for water & sanitation, matching State share and externally aided projects, and overall, more than Rs. 1 lakh crore is planned to be invested for FY 21-22 to expand tap water supply to rural households.
For Jal Jeevan Urban Rs. 2.87 trillion was announced, which aims to provide 4,378 ULBs (Urban Local Bodies) with 2.68 crore tap connections.
The Jal Jeevan Mission, both urban and rural are over looked by Jal Shakti Ministry, which are formed after integration of several ministries, Ministry of water resources and the Ministry of drinking water and sanitation, and other bodies, with an aim to provide ‘Har Ghar Jal’ by 2024.
