Additionally, the civic body has proposed to develop vacant spaces beneath the flyovers included in the list.
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has received approvals from the state government for redevelopment of six road junctions in Bengaluru with an expenditure of Rs 50.70 crore.
The redevelopment of the junctions will be carried out under the ‘Suraksha 75’ project — which was unveiled by the Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on 27 March 2023.
The project aims for redesign and redevelopment of 75 city junctions with a budget allocation of Rs 150 crore — with the objective of decongesting vehicular movements, ensuring walkability and pedestrian safety
The decision for revamping the city junctions was initially announced in the BBMP’s Budget for the fiscal year 2023-24 — which aimed to facilitate major road infrastructure developments for the city.
The approved redevelopment projects include junctions at — Doddanekundi Main Road with Rs 9.60 crore allocation, Banaswadi 8th Main Road with Rs 23.54 crore, Anand Rao Circle with Rs 2.16 crore, BHEL Junction on Mysuru Road with Rs 3.28 crore, Sumanahalli Junction with Rs 2.70 crore, and Sivananda Circle with Rs 4.36 crore, as per a report by Deccan Herald.
As per the DH report, two proposals were ideated by two nonprofits — Sensing Local and Young Leaders for Active Citizens.
The 8th Main Road junction in Banaswadi is set to be developed based on the design of the Koramangala Valley, and there are plans to beautify a 16.4-km street in Doddanekundi village by providing sufficient pedestrian amenities.
Additionally, the civic body has proposed to develop vacant spaces beneath the flyovers included in the list.
The BBMP plans to construct facilities for skating and basketball under the Sivananda Circle flyover, while plans to develop facility to showcase Channapatna toys under the Vijayanagar Circle flyover.
At the Anand Rao flyover, the BBMP intends to provide seating arrangements for passengers who wait for long-distance buses at the intersection.
In addition to the redevelopment of junctions and spaces under flyovers, BBMP is set to allocate a budget of Rs 5.06 crore for the installation of information and way-finding signages on city roads.
