The high-speed rail corridor’s seven identified rail networks include critical routes such as Delhi-Varanasi, Delhi-Ahmedabad, Delhi-Amritsar, Mumbai-Nagpur, Chennai-Mysuru, and Varanasi-Howrah.
The National Rail Plan (NRP) has identified seven potential routes for the development of a high-speed rail network, including the Mumbai-Hyderabad route.
The Union Railway Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, revealed this information in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
This opens up the possibility of Hyderabad getting a bullet train connectivity with Mumbai and Bengaluru.
The NRP envisions a bullet train network spanning 709 km between Mumbai and Hyderabad. The initial preparations for this ambitious project are already underway to assess its feasibility. The project is scheduled for completion by 2051.
The proposed bullet train connectivity between Mumbai and Hyderabad aims to establish a robust network between these commercial cities, considering the future demand for seamless connectivity.
In addition to the Mumbai-Hyderabad route, the NRP’s high-speed rail master plan also includes plans for bullet train connectivity between Hyderabad and Bengaluru by 2041. Furthermore, there is consideration for a network connecting Chennai to Bengaluru via Mysuru by 2051.
An official quoted by the Times of India stated that the feasibility study will cover various aspects, including soil testing, property and land acquisition requirements. This study will culminate in the preparation of a detailed project report.
These proposed connections would further enhance the high-speed rail network in the region.
In collaboration with the government of Japan, the government is currently undertaking the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project. This initiative aims to bring technical expertise and financial support to the development of a high-speed rail network in the country.
