In a big boost for the India’s maiden bullet train project, around 95 per cent of the land required for the Gujarat stretch of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor has been acquired, reports Livemint.
Sharing the development in State Assembly, Gujarat’s Revenue Minister Kaushik Patel said that as of December 2020, the acquisition of 69.99 lakh square metres out of the required 73.64 lakh square metres land required for the Gujarat leg of the project have been completed in the eight districts of the state, leaving around another about five per cent which was still to be acquired.
Patel said that the acquisition of land has been completed in Valsad and Kheda districts, while it is still in progress in Navsari, Ahmedabad, Anand, Bharuch, Surat and Vadodara.
Patel also informed the state Assembly that the state government has so far received a total of 1,908 applications from farmers objecting to the project’s land acquisition.
The project is being pursued in India with financial and technical support from Japan which has pioneered the famed Shinkansen bullet train platform over the decades.
