Metro 6 line is expected to slash the travel time between Western Express Highway and Eastern Express Highway by up to 45 minutes.
The pink line will importantly connect several important business areas like Powai, Gogeshwari and Goregaon.
Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has released a tender for the acquisition of 108 standard gauge coaches in order to operate the Metro Line 6.
Metro Corridor 6 runs from Swami Samarth Nagar in Andheri to Vikhroli Eastern Express Highway.
MMRDA is looking for an agency to undertake the entire process of designing, manufacturing, supplying, testing, and commissioning all 108 coaches for the Metro Line 6.
The agency will also be responsible for providing training for the operation of the metro trains.
The total cost of procurement and training is estimated to be Rs 989 crore (excluding taxes).
The entire line for the Metro Line 6 in Mumbai is fully elevated and will connect Western Express Highway (WEH) and Eastern Express Highway (EEH).
This 15.31 km line will pass through Jogeshwari, WEH, Powai, and will run from Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli (EEH).
The overall Metro Line-6 is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 6,700 crore, with a target to complete in the next couple of years.
The line will connect Vikhroli to Lokhandwala, crisscrossing over railway tracks along the way. This line is fully elevated and it connects Western Express and Eastern Express Highways.
The link will be integrated with four other metro routes. This includes the already operational lines of Mumbai Metro — Line 2A and Line-7.
Additionally, the network will be interconnected to the in-progress, fully underground Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro Line 3, and Line-4 connecting Wadala to Kasardavali.
With the objective of reducing burden from the suburban railways and ease the commute for citizens, the line will be linked to Jogeshwari and Kanjurmarg railway stations.
This will enhance the commute in similar way to the Metro 1 linkage with Andheri and Ghatkopar railway stations and is expected to support the developing infrastructure for Greater Mumbai.
This connection will give greater accessibility to many governmental, commercial and geographically significant areas.
It will contribute as an alternative and cater to the heavy traffic of employees travelling in central and western suburban lines from both directions during peak hours.
