In a bid to accelerate the construction of Metro corridors and pre-empt potential delays, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has established dedicated expert teams for each Metro line.
The ground-breaking strategy christened as ‘one line, one manager’ is expected to redefine the construction process and is a decisive step towards achieving punctuality and precision.
“Previously, various aspects such as electrical and civil work lacked clear ownership, leading to potential bottlenecks. With this new approach, we’ve designated a team leader for each Metro line, along with directors overseeing comprehensive progress. This shift promises a substantial change,” said Sanjay Mukherjee, MMRDA commissioner, while explaining his insights into the transformational move.
The restructured approach involves the assignment of three directors, each overseeing a dedicated metro line.
This strategic distribution of responsibilities aims to bring unparalleled focus and accountability to the construction process.
Administrative guidelines have been meticulously defined to outline the responsibilities of directors, chief engineers, and team leaders. This framework is expected to foster better synchronisation between departments, enhancing coordination between systems and civil engineering.
Lines Under Construction
The MMRDA is the nodal agency overseeing the Metro construction work in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), excluding the city’s first underground Metro Line-3 (Colaba-SEEPZ via BKC).
The metro lines currently under implementation in the MMR region include:
Metro Line 4: Wadala to Ghatkopar to Thane to Kasarwadavli
Metro Line 4A: Kasarwadavli to Gaimukh
Metro Line 5: Thane to Bhiwandi to Kalyan
Metro Line 6: Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli
Metro Line 9: Dahisar (E) to Mira Bhayandar to Andheri
Metro Line 10: Gaimukh to Shivaji Chowk (Mira Road)
Metro Line 11: Wadala to CSMT
Metro Line 12: Kalyan to Taloj
