RRTS corridor will be a ‘green belt’, and will have an eco-friendly premise with rainwater harvesting, sewage treatment plants, solar lighting, tree plantation and many more such initiatives.
Committed towards a greener India, National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has undertaken a series of steps to develop its first depot of Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor as an eco-friendly premise with rainwater harvesting, sewage treatment plants, solar lighting, tree plantation and many more such initiatives.
The RRTS corridor will be a ‘green belt’ and all our buildings will be equipped with LED lights, eco-friendly ACs, and windows for ventilation and natural air, according to NCRTC.
Duhai Depot is being developed as an environment-friendly depot. To achieve this, it has installed a rainwater harvesting system on a large scale at the depot. Along with this, solar panels will be installed in the administrative building for green energy generation. It is also planning to plant several trees inside the depot for adequate greenery.
Duhai Depot is being developed over an area of about 15 hectares. To save and effectively utilise the rainwater in the depot, an effective system is planned where 22 rainwater harvesting pits are being constructed to harvest rainwater. With the help of this system, not only the rainwater will be used for several purposes, but it will also help raise the groundwater level.
The construction of these 22 rainwater harvesting pits is in the final stage. Along with these pits, de-salting chambers with sieves are also being constructed to separate the waste material from rainwater. All the drains of the depot will be connected to these de-salting chambers. The rainwater will first reach the de-salting chamber after being filtered through a sieve and then the clean rainwater will reach the rainwater harvesting pit.
An administrative building has been built in the Duhai Depot for the operations and other works of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor. Along with this, stabling yards have also been constructed in the depot for the RRTS trains. Solar panels will be installed on the roofs of the buildings of Duhai Depot to generate green energy. Meanwhile, Solar energy is being used through ‘solatube’ lighting on the upper floor of the administrative building.
Along with this, NCRTC is also making efforts to make Duhai Depot green. Under the landscaping works, different types of plants are being planted inside the depot. About 200 saplings have been planted so far and plans are also to plant big trees, fruit and flower plants on the premises.
In line with its vision to contribute towards a clean and green environment, NCRTC strives to achieve the highest rating of Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) certification for all RRTS stations, depots, and other buildings.
