Sony is set to collaborate with Honda Motor to build a new company that will develop and sell electric vehicles (EVs).
Earlier, Sony had unveiled the prototype of its Vision-S EV in January this year. It had also revealed that its subsidiary Sony Mobility will be engaging in the EV sector going ahead.
Calling the partnership with Honda a ‘strategic alliance’, Sony said that the two companies are looking to establish their firm by the end of 2022.
Honda will handle the manufacturing of the EVs whereas both the institutions will work together on sales, tech and design of the same.
“This alliance aims… to realize a new generation of mobility and services that are closely aligned with users and the environment,” Sony’s official statement read, as reported by AFP.
Sony Group president Kenichiro Yoshida said, “I believe this alliance which brings together the strengths of our two companies offers great possibilities for the future of mobility.”
Yoshida admitted that that the technological expertise of the two companies is very different. However, he acknowledged that they share several cultural and historical similarities as well.
The sales of their first electric model will commence from 2025 onwards.
