In 26 months since the launch of Jal Jeevan Mission, 46.85 lakh households in Maharashtra have been provided tap water connections.
In Karnataka, 14.53 lakh households have been provided tap water connections within last 26 months.
A team of eight and six members each from the National Jal Jeevan Mission (NJJM) are visiting the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka respectively.
The team is visiting three to five villages daily to see the implementation on the ground and sensitise local officers for speedy implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission to ensure ‘Har Ghar Jal’ by 2024.
While the team is touring Bengaluru, Tumkur and Kolar districts in Karnataka, the team is touring Raigad, Sindhudurg, Palghar and Pune districts in Maharashtra.
In Maharashtra, out of a total of 1.42 crore rural households, 95.30 lakh (66.94 per cent) households have been provided with tap water connections.
On 15 August 2019, at the time of the launch of Jal Jeevan Mission, 48.43 lakh (34.02 per cent) households in the State had a tap water supply.
In 26 months, 46.85 lakh households in the State have been provided tap water connections. In 2021-22, the State has planned to provide tap water connections to 27.45 lakh households.
Similarly in Karnataka, out of 97.92 lakh rural households, 39.04 lakh (39.87 per cent) households have been provided with tap water connections.
At the time of the launch of Jal Jeevan Mission, 24.51 lakh (25.03 per cent) households had a tap water supply.
In 26 months, 14.53 lakh (14.84 per cent) households in the State have been provided tap water connections. In 2021-22, the State has planned to provide tap water connections to 25.17 lakh households.
At the start of the mission in 2019, out of 19.20 crore rural households in the country, only 3.23 Crore (17 per cent) had a tap water supply.
During the last 26 months, despite the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns disruptions, 5.17 crore rural households have been provided with tap water connections. Presently, 8.40 Crore (43.72 per cent) rural households across the country have a tap water supply.
