The construction arm of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a contract from Indian Railways for electrification and other works on the Northeast Frontier Railway network.
“The Railways strategic business unit (SBU) of L&T Construction’s Transportation Infrastructure IC has secured an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) order from IRCON International LTD involving 25 kV Overhead Electrification, Signaling and Telecommunication, and associated works for 549 RKM (Route Km)/678 TKM (Track Km) railway lines pertaining to the Northeast Frontier Railway,” the company said.
The project is part of the Central Government’s ‘Mission Electrification’ initiative aimed to electrify the entire Indian Railway network to reduce carbon footprint as well as expenditure on diesel, it added.
“The business is already executing four major EPC contracts from Central Organization for Railway Electrification (CORE) viz., EPC-01 (Delhi – Jaipur line), EPC-07 (Various sections of the Southern Railway), EPC-06 (Various sections of the North-Western Railway) and EPC-15A (Various sections of the Northeast Frontier Railway),” the company statement said.
IRCON International is one of the implementing agencies responsible for carrying out the railway electrification works over the selected networks of Indian Railways, the statement added.
It should be noted that the Ircon International is under the ownership of Union Ministry of Railways and is an engineering and construction corporation, specialized in transport infrastructure.
