Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated CIPET (Institute of Petrochemicals Technology) located in Jaipur through video conference.
He highlighted that the Rajasthan Refinery Project at Barmer is progressing rapidly with more than Rs 70,000 crore investment.
The project involves the setting up a Greenfield 9 Million Metric Tonne Per Annum (MMTPA) refinery cum petrochemical complex.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday (30 September), inaugurated CIPET (Institute of Petrochemicals Technology) located in Jaipur through video conference.
He also laid the foundation stone for four new medical colleges in the Banswara, Sirohi, Hanumangarh and Dausa districts of Rajasthan. The Prime Minister congratulated the people of Rajasthan for the four new medical colleges and CIPET institute.
“Skilled manpower is the need of the hour for one of the fastest-growing industries like the Petro-Chemical Industry. The new Institute of Petrochemical Technology will connect the lakhs of youth with new possibilities,” PM Modi said.
He also recalled his Chief Minister tenure and efforts to establish and nurture Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, now Energy University, in the state. He said this type of institute would pave the way for youths to contribute to clean energy innovations.

Talking about the city gas distribution in the state, he said that until 2014 only one city in the state had permission for City gas distribution; now, 17 districts have been authorized for city gas distribution network. He added that every district of the state would have a piped gas network in the coming years.
Mega Refinery To Transform The Region
The Rajasthan Refinery will be the state’s first. The project involves the setting up a Greenfield 9 Million Metric Tonne Per Annum (MMTPA) refinery cum petrochemical complex at Pachpadra in the Barmer district of Rajasthan.
The project site is spread across 4,812 acres comprising villages of Sajjiyali, Roopji, Kanthavad, and Sambhara, in the Pachpadra Tehsil of the Barmer district in Rajasthan.
According to NS Energy, the Refinery will also be connected with the proposed 70 km long crude pipeline from the Mangla Processing Terminal (MPT) and a 60 km-long natural gas pipeline from the Raageshwari Gas Terminal (RGT).
The product output from the Refinery will conform to the advanced BS-VI emission norms. The project is a Joint Venture of HPCL and the Government of Rajasthan.
In addition to Motor Spirit and Diesel, the Refinery envisages the production of major products like Ethylene and Propylene derivatives. These derivatives are used as feedstock in various ancillary industries, viz. packaging, textile, petrochemical industry etc.
The Refinery project is likely to provide direct employment to about 1,500 skilled workers, and during the construction stage, the Refinery is expected to generate indirect employment for about 30,000 persons.
A 247-acre greenfield township and a 166-acre reservoir are also being developed at the site.
