The Shivaji Stadium bus terminus near Connaught Place in New Delhi is set to undergo redevelopment, with an estimated cost of Rs 64 crore.

Bids for the project were invited by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). The NDMC plans to revamp the infrastructure, including the bus terminus, as well as commercial and office complexes, reports Hindustan Times.

Officials from the NDMC have stated that the project is expected to be completed within three years.

The upcoming facility, according to NDMC vice-chairman Satish Upadhyay, will be a state-of-the-art structure meeting international standard. It will include various green features and amenities such as a spacious underground parking area, a taxi hub, and a food court.

The project has been in the planning stage for the past four years, and on 1 December 2021, the council approved the project.

“The tenders will be opened on 30 November and work will be awarded by March next year. The department has estimated that the revamped complex will be ready by early 2027,” the vice-chairman added.

According to an NDMC official, the terminus in Delhi-NCR will be a unique combination of commercial space, transportation facilities, a food zone, and car parking.

The redevelopment project report outlines plans for a disabled-friendly complex. The complex includes two basement levels for parking, a ground floor for a bus terminus, and two upper floors for commercial space.

The complex will offer approximately 29,671 square feet of commercial office space, to recover the initial investment within 2-2.5 years of project execution.

The council plans to generate a monthly rental revenue of Rs 2.4 crore from these commercial spaces.

The complex’s existing parking space will be expanded, doubling its capacity. The parking area will have enough space for 113 cars and will also be equipped with electric charging stations.

Additionally, solar panels will be installed on the roof to meet the complex’s power needs.

The transport hub at Shivaji terminus will feature a smooth integration of various modes of public transport, including bicycle-sharing stations, auto-rickshaws, and taxis.

A similar project was previously attempted by NDMC in 2018-19, with an estimated initial cost of Rs 39 crore, but no tenders were received.

The Shivaji stadium complex, which currently spans 4,235.7 sqm, will be expanded to include an additional 5,702 sqm of basement area and 2,757 sqm of office space in the redeveloped complex.
