The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated the installation of charging stations with a ‘battery swapping’ system for electric vehicles on various expressways in the state.

These expressways include the Yamuna Expressway, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway, and Gorakhpur Link Expressway.

As per the initiative, the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) plans to install charging stations which will be developed on the public-private partnership model.

Interested companies have been invited to submit applications for their development through the e-tender portal, reports Hindustan Times.

UPEIDA submitted the tender for public charging stations on 20 October. Interested applicants are invited to submit their applications from 11 November to 28 November. The tender will open on 29 November, as stated in the release.

Additionally, necessary guidelines have been issued for charge point operators. The selected applicants for charging station development will receive land from UPEIDA on a nominal lease for 10 years.

Furthermore, UPEIDA will provide 100 per cent financial support for the development of the ‘Behind the Meter Power Structure.’

In 2022, the implementation of Uttar Pradesh’s Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy brought about comprehensive support and incentives for electric vehicles (EVs).

This included subsidies and other provisions to encourage the adoption and growth of EVs in the region.

Further, in line with government’s vision for EVs, it has announced plans to install a total of 2,000 EV charging stations throughout the state, in order to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles.

These efforts will include the establishment of 1,300 EV charging stations in municipal cities such as Agra, Lucknow, and Prayagraj, as well as 100 stations at heritage sites in Ayodhya and Agra, and approximately 200 stations at popular tourist destinations like Mathura-Vrindavan and Varanasi-Ayodhya.
