Eastern Railway Registers Over 21 Per Cent Growth In Revenue, Earns Rs 10,502 Crore In FY23

The Eastern Railway (ER) reported a total revenue of Rs 10,501.99 crore during the financial year 2022-23, registering a growth of 21.17 per cent compared to the previous fiscal’s figure of Rs 8,667.12 crore.

The total revenue generated in FY23 was 2.28 per cent more than the target, according to the Eastern Railway.

In the passenger revenue category, ER earned a revenue of Rs 3,272.67 crore in FY23, up by 53.61 per cent from last year’s figures of Rs 2,130.57 crore, according to a statement by the Kolkata-headquartered zonal railway.

Due to the second and third waves of the Covid-19 pandemic, movement of people was lesser in 2021-22.

“Eastern Railway has earned a total revenue of Rs 10,501.99 crore during financial year 2022-23 as against Rs 8,667.12 crore earned during the financial year 2021-22, registering a growth of 21.17 per cent,” the Zonal Railway said in a statement, reports Economic Times.

In the Financial Year ended on 31 March 2023, Eastern Railway transported 1094.20 million passengers, showing a growth of 54.29 per cent from the previous fiscal’s 709.319 million passengers.

The zonal railway earned Rs 6,514.63 crore in 2022-23 from goods revenue, marking an 8.16 per cent growth from the previous financial year’s Rs 6,023.13 crore, according to the statement.

The Eastern Railway saw a growth of 90.33 per cent in sundry revenue earnings, with a turnover of Rs 423.95 crore in FY23 compared to Rs 222.75 crore in 2021-22, the statement said.

Further, the zonal railway earned Rs 107.69 crore in parcel and luggage carrying in 2022-23, a growth of 12.53 per cent from the previous fiscal year’s Rs 95.69 crore.
