Indian Railways Freight Earnings Registers A Healthy 16 Per Cent Increase

Moving on growth trajectory, Indian Railways has earned Rs 105,905 crore from freight loading till November 2022, an increase by 16 per cent compared to the same period of last year.

On a mission mode, the railways’ goods loading for the first eight months of this financial year 2022-23 has surpassed last year’s loading and earnings for the same period.

On a cumulative basis from April to November 2022, freight loading of 978.72 million tonnes (MT) was achieved against last year’s loading of 903.16 MT during the same period, an increase of 8 per cent.

The railways has earned Rs 1,05,905 crore against Rs 91,127 crore over last year which is an improvement of 16 per cent as compared to the same period of last year.

During the month of November 2022, freight loading of 123.9 MT was achieved against the loading of 116.96 MT in November 2021, which is an increase of 5 per cent over last year.

Freight revenue of Rs 13,560 crore was achieved against Rs 12,206 crore freight earnings in October 2021, thereby showing an improvement of 11 per cent over last year.

Following the ‘Hungry for Cargo’ mantra, the railways has made sustained efforts to improve the ease of doing business as well as improve the service delivery at competitive prices which has resulted in new traffic coming to railways from both conventional and non-conventional commodity streams.

The customer-centric approach and work of business development units, backed up by agile policy, helped the railways towards this landmark achievement.
