NCRTC Constructs Modern Potato Cold Storage Near Modipuram RRTS Station

National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has completed the construction of a modern potato cold storage at the Central Potato Research Institute (CPRI) campus.

It is located near Modipuram Station on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor.

Earlier, there was no potato cold storage facility in the CPRI campus.

Back in 2021, NCRTC had acquired land from CPRI for the construction of Modipuram station. In lieu of this land, an agreement was signed between NCRTC and CPRI to set up a potato cold storage with a capacity of 600 metric tonnes for the same amount as the payable price. This cold storage has been constructed under the same agreement.

A memorandum of understanding was signed between the NCRTC and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) regarding the construction of this cold storage with all facilities.

To keep the storage cool, four large refrigerating systems have been installed in it, which will be able to maintain the temperature up to 4 degrees in this cold storage.

In order to protect the potato crop kept in this cold storage from moisture, a virtual wooden floor has been installed in it, which is like a wooden mesh floor. There is a gap of about one foot between this virtual wooden floor and the ground.

Along with this, necessary operating offices, electrical supply rooms and other rooms have been built for cold storage.

With the use of this potato cold storage, CPRI will be better able to store the researched seeds for potato production and preserve the potatoes for longer periods. NCRTC will soon hand over this potato cold storage to CPRI.
