The government on Friday (10 February) said that eight applications for setting up of Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) have been received from seven states, including Haryana, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, under the EMC 2.0 scheme.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) had notified the modified Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC 2.0) scheme on 1 April 2020 to provide financial support for creation of world class infrastructure along with common facilities and amenities, including ready built factory (RBF) sheds and plug and play facilities for attracting major global electronics manufacturers along with their supply chains, to set up their manufacturing operations in such clusters.
The scheme is open for receipt of application upto March 2023 with disbursement of funds upto March 2028 to the approved projects.
“Under the EMC 2.0 scheme, eight applications for establishment of Electronics Manufacturing Cluster and two applications for setting up of Common Facility Centres (CFCs) have been received from seven states across the country,” Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.
The minister further said that out of the received applications, “three applications have been approved and four applications have been acknowledged”.
Remaining three applications will be finalised after receiving of requisite documents from concerned applicant, the minister said.
The approved projects are located in Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, and Maharashtra while the acknowledged projects are in Telangana, Uttarakhand and Karnataka.
Meanwhile, three projects from Tamil Nadu will be finalised after the ministry receives the requisite documents from the “concerned applicant”.
