Surya urges Minister Puri to fast-track metro approval.

Bengaluru South MP also bats for a full-time MD for BMRCL to prevent delays.

Bengaluru South’s Lok Sabha Member of Parliament LS Tejasvi Surya on Friday, 18 August, urged the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri to approve Bengaluru Metro’s Phase 3 project soon.

Highlighting how a well-connected metro line would help in decongesting the city, Surya pushed for its early clearance from the Centre.

The BJP-led state government under Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had cleared the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Phase 3. It now awaits the clearance from the union government.

Phase 3 of the metro is planned between the Vega City Junction in JP Nagar and will go all the way up to Kadabagere on Magadi Road.

The line is 44.65 kilometre long and is split into two corridors — 32.15 km from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura (ORR west) with 22 stations and 12.5 km between Hosahalli and Kadabagere (Magadi Road) comprising nine stations (a total of 31 stations).

Speaking to Swarajya, Surya said that the third phase of the metro will be specifically important in providing an efficient and economical mode of Mass Rapid Transit System in Bengaluru South, serving a large commuter base of employees, students and general public.

The minister’s intervention in expediting the approval of the Phase 3 of the Bengaluru Metro will benefit all 1.10 crore Bengalureans”, he added.

‘BMRCL needs full-time MD’

Surya also drew the attention of the Union Minister towards certain delays in the implementation of the projects of Bengaluru Metro.

Speaking on the need for a full-time MD for the Metro, Surya said in a tweet: “Also discussed administrative concerns in BMRCL and the need for improving efficiency and addressing bottlenecks in the Yellow Line. Highlighted the need for a full-time MD for this important SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle) for our city’s development. The Minister has assured positive action in this regard”.

Surya also said that Puri has assured him of visiting Bengaluru soon to take stock of the progress of the Phase 2A, Phase 2B and Yellow Line of the Metro.

Citing frequent delays, MP Tejasvi Surya puts focus on Bengaluru Metro administration.
