484 Railway Projects Of 51,000 Km Under Implementation With Over Rs 7.5 Lakh Crore, Govt Informs Lok Sabha

As of 1 April 2021, 484 Railway projects of 51,165 km length, costing around Rs 7.53 lakh crore, are in different execution stages, out of which 10,638 km length has been commissioned and an expenditure of approximately Rs 2.14 lakh crore has been incurred up to March 2021.

This information was given by the Union Minister of Railways, AshwiniVaishnaw, in a written reply in Lok Sabha on Wednesday (8 December).

These Railway projects include 187 new line projects of 21,037 km length, costing Rs 4,05,916 crore; 46 Gauge conversion projects of 6,213 km length, costing Rs 53,171 crore; 251 Doubling projects of 23,915 km length, costing Rs 2,93,471 crore.

Out of new line projects, commissioning of 2,621 km length has been achieved, and Rs 1,05,591 crore has been incurred.

Among Gauge conversion projects, commissioning of 3,587 km length has been achieved, and expenditure of Rs 22,184 crore has been incurred up to March 2021.

Also, Doubling projects of 4,430 km length was commissioned with Rs 86,041 crore up to March 2021. 

According to the Ministry of Railways, Zonal Railway wise details of Railway projects, including cost, expenditure and outlay, are made available in the public domain on the Indian Railways website.

The Railway projects are sanctioned Zonal Railway wise and not State-wise as the Railways’ projects may span across State boundaries.
