For First Time, ICF Chennai To Manufacture Coaches For Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation

AK Agarwal, the General Manager of the Integral Coach Factory Chennai, ICF, will produce metro coaches and 75 Vande Bharat Express Coaches this year.

In his address at the 76th Independence Day celebrations, AK Agarwal announced that ICF would manufacture metro coaches for the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation and garib rath air-conditioned III tier coaches that facilitate rail passengers to travel in air-conditioning comfort at lesser fares, reports The Economic Times.

ICF will produce coaches for the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation for the first time.

This year, ICF plans to build 75 Vande Bharat trains, freight trains, and a steam-themed electric train based on the Vande Bharat design, he added.

After tests for various technical and operational functions over 15,000 km, the trains would connect to all parts of the country.

A K Agarwal stated that the factory intended to produce 3,500 coaches in approximately 50 different models. “These will include Vande Bharat rakes, the Vistadome dining car, which will be operational in Gujarat by September. There will also be a Gatishakti freight train on the Vande Bharat platform and a steam engine-themed heritage train with electric propulsion on the Vande Bharat platform.” he added.
