The proposed Rs 73,000 crore draft development plan (DP) for the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR) targets making the city India’s most livable habitat as well as premium international investment destination through planned development works over the coming 20 years.

PMRDA CEO Suhas Diwase said that the DP aims at bringing about integrated and consolidated growth with the aims of convenient mobility, efficient infrastructure, self-sufficient housing and amenities, prudent employment and economic growth and a resilient environment.

The draft talks about creating different towns that are self-sufficient in nature and also have a unique economic model of their own.

They would be worked upon in a way that it complements the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).

About 18 urban growth centres that are connected with each other and also with the PMC and the PCMC through a mass transit system will be created as per the development plans.

26 town planning schemes, two ring roads, 59 public housing projects, nine truck terminals, 12 logistical hubs along with the 152.19-km Pune-Nashik semi high-speed rail and 89.65-km crescent railway are certain initiatives that constitute this draft plan, Financial Express reports.
