Telangana: Installed Solar Power Capacity Increases By 30 Times In Six Years

The installed solar power capacity in Telangana has experienced a drastic increase from 120 megawatts (MW) in 2016 to a whopping 3,900 MW this year.

This increase amounts to an increase of 30 times in the past six years.

According to the Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation Limited (TSREDCO), which is the State-designated agency for implementing all renewable energy programmes, there has been a massive demand for solar power, reports The New Indian Express.

Among the total renewable energy of 4,400 MW installed in the State, solar power constitutes 3,900 MW. The remaining energy is tapped through wind energy, biomass energy, biogas, industrial waste to energy and mini-hydel projects.

Out of the 3,900 MW installed solar power capacity, 3,700 MW is from ground-mounted solar structures and around 200 MW by solar-rooftop panels.

Around 200 MW solar rooftop panels are primarily installed atop residential buildings, and 10,167 consumers use it in the State, among which almost 7,863 consumers reside in the Greater Hyderabad limits.

“There will be more consumers for solar power in the coming years and we would attract them by providing incentives,” N Janaiah, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, TSREDCO, said.
