Women are going to play a key role in the operations of the modern, high-speed, high-frequency RAPIDX train services.
It is noteworthy that the participation of woman employees in the operations of this section will be more than that of male employees.
National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has taken a purposeful step towards breaking established gender norms in the transport sector by ensuring equal participation of women, which has traditionally been considered male-dominated.
Thus, India’s first regional rail is not only making strides in the field of technology but is also creating a new picture of modern India through the efforts of woman empowerment.
Among the train operators appointed to operate RAPIDX trains in the priority section, the number of female operators is more than male operators.
Apart from this, women are also playing a crucial role in other areas like station control, station management, operation and maintenance, operation control centre, train attendants, customer care, etc.
To familiarise the operators with this modern and urban transport system and train them, they were first provided with classroom sessions and necessary training including driving the train and controlling the speed of the train on simulators for a duration of three months.
During these training sessions, they were trained about the ETCS Level-2 signalling system, which is being used for the first time in the world in the RRTS system, its new-age rolling stock, train control system, etc.
The operating speed of RAPIDX trains is 160 km per hour, it is very exciting for these woman operators to drive the train at such a high speed.
Operating a train is a task of great concentration, patience, and responsibility. In the last 6 months, trains have been run on this system in the same manner as they will be run after operations. Moreover, every dimension of this system is being examined closely. These woman employees have performed excellently in this entire process.
Not only are these women happy to be a part of this project, but their families are also feeling proud. They are also feeling the responsibility for the safe and successful journey of passengers.
Operations in the priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor are going to commence very soon, preparations for which have been completed.
There are five stations in this section: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai and Duhai Depot. The priority section of RRTS is the first railway system in the country to be opened for operation covering its entire length at a maximum operating speed of 160 kmph.
RAPIDX will ensure fast, safe and comfortable regional transit service for commuters.
The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor will provide employment, business and education opportunities, enabling multi-centric and balanced development in the National Capital Region. This sustainable mode of public transport is expected to significantly reduce congestion and air pollution.
