A key development in Mumbai’s coastal road project has been realised today (12 September) as one of the two arch bridges connecting the coastal road to the Bandra Worli Sea Link (BWSL) was opened for northbound traffic.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the newly opened bridge will allow northbound vehicles to directly access the Bandra Worli Sea Link, bypassing the previously required exit at the Worli interchange. This development is expected to streamline traffic flow and reduce travel time for motorists.
The opening of this bridge is seen as a pivotal step towards enhancing the coastal road’s connectivity. Currently, the coastal road is operational only up to Worli, but this bridge will provide a crucial link to the Bandra Worli Sea Link, further integrating Mumbai’s road network, reports Free Press Journal.
The bridge’s opening had been delayed from its initial July schedule due to monsoon rains and technical issues, according to reports. Despite this setback, the new infrastructure is anticipated to significantly ease traffic congestion in the area.
The second arch bridge, expected to be completed by the end of the year, will not yet accommodate two-way traffic. Motorists heading towards Nariman Point will continue to use the existing entry points at Worli and Haji Ali until further developments are made.
