The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) has issued a tender for the geo-technical survey of a 12.76-km section of the 28.80-km line for Gurugram Metro.

The proposed 28.8 km-long corridor is expected to have 27 elevated stations, including a spur between Basai and the Dwarka expressway.

On completion it will extend the Metro rail line from Huda City Centre to Old Gururgam, and then CyberHub via a loop, connecting the whole city.

After being stalled for six years, work on the Gurugram Metro project has finally begun.

The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) has issued a tender for the geo-technical survey of a 12.76-km section of the 28.80-km line.

The corridor on completion will extend the Metro rail line from Huda City Centre to Old Gururgam, and then CyberHub via a loop, connecting the whole city.

The HMRTC is managing the project’s execution.

Officials stated that the geo-technical consultant would offer a thorough overview of soil and rock features, including test results and analyses, for each kilometre of the survey, reports Hindustan Times.

This development has come in following a recent announcement by Manohar Lal Khattar, the chief minister of Haryana — that the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) will commence civil work on the Gurugram Metro within a month.

This will involve relocating utilities and ensuring a clear right of way for laying the Metro line.

The last day for submission of bids is 30 June, by 3.30 pm, while technical bids will be opened the same day at 5.30pm, the notice issued by HMRTC said.

As part of the geotechnical survey, the prescribed activities involve digging boreholes in rocks underground, standard penetration tests, soil sample collection from boreholes, and recording water table data.

It is also specified that samples of groundwater shall be obtained from each bore hole and chemical tests conducted to check the acidity of water, and content of chlorides and sulphates present in the groundwater.

The metro project, which was conceptualised in 2016, has faced numerous setbacks due to frequent changes in its plan and route.

After the approval of the final detailed project report by the state cabinet in October 2022, the metro project now awaits the final clearance from the Union cabinet.

The estimated total cost is Rs 6,800 crore, according to the chief minister.

The proposed 28.8 km-long corridor is expected to have 27 elevated stations, including a spur between Basai and the Dwarka expressway.

Additionally, a Metro link from Palam Vihar to Dwarka Sector 21 has been proposed by the state government to connect the Gurugram Metro and the Blue Line of Delhi Metro in Dwarka.
