Mumbai Coastal Road Project: BMC Invites Bids For All 6 Packages Of Rs 16,621 crore Versova-Dahisar North Extension

The BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) has invited bids for all six packages of Rs 16,621 crore Versova-Dahisar phase of the Coastal Road project-North extension.

Once complete, the Versova-Dahisar extension of the coastal road is expected to reduce the travel time by 70 per cent and will decongest the SV Road, Link Road, and Western Express Highway (WEH), which are the currently the only available mode of travel between north and south Mumbai.

The Versova-Dahisar extension will comprise of six packages. The package A will cover a length of 4.5-km and will include elevated roads, a basket bridge, and an arterial road built on stilts. This phase will connect the under construction Versova–Bandra Sea Link interchange in Versova to Lokhandwala.

The package B will be provide connectivity with the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project which aims to connect the Western and Eastern Express Highways. Last week, the BMC awarded the construction contract for two underground tunnels as part of the GMLR project to a joint venture between NCC, based in Hyderabad, and J Kumar Infra Projects, located in Mumbai.

4 other packages of Versova-Dahisar connector , totalling a length of around 12-km, will provide connectivity from Mindspace Mall in Malad to Dahisar.

Mumbai Coastal Road Project

The entire coastal Road is envisaged as a 29.20-km road network along the western coastal stretch of Mumbai. The project is being constructed in multiple phases.

The first phase of Mumbai Coastal Road comprises of the 10.5-km-long south section, which will connect Princess Flyover Road on Marine Drive with Worli end of Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Work on this stretch is currently nearing completion and is expected to open by end of 2023.

The 19 km Phase 2 (northern section) of the coastal road project will connect Bandra with Kandivali.

One part of the northern section, the Versova–Bandra Sea Link (VBSLP), is already under construction. Expected to be complete by end of 2026, it connects the Bandra-end of the Bandra–Worli Sea Link with Nana Nani Park in Versova. It also provides interchanges with Carter Road and Juhu providing a total of 4 entry and exit points. The main sea link bridge will be 9.60-km in length with 4 lanes in each direction.
