The survey work for acquisition of land for the second phase of the Noida International Airport (NIA) is expected to begin in two weeks.
Currently, the construction work is under progress for the first phase of the Greenfield airport.
The second phase of the NIA is planned in an area of 1,365 hectares, of which around 1,185 hectares are owned by private persons, including farmers, of six villages.
The six villages from which land is to be acquired are Ranhera, Kureb, Dayanatpur, Karauli Bangar, Mundrah, and Birampur, all in Jewar, some 75 km from the national capital.
Chronology
Earlier, in October 2022, the district administration had received consent from more than 70 per cent of farmers – the minimum required by law for the government to proceed for land acquisition.
The Gautam Buddha Nagar administration, subsequently, sent a proposal to the Uttar Pradesh state government for the acquisition of land for the second phase of NIA in November 2022.
With the proposal being accepted, the revenue officials are expected to begin the survey in the next two weeks in the six villages.
Under the survey, individual properties would be measured against which the compensation would be disbursed.
Also, the state government has been requisitioned to provide additional manpower for proceeding with the detailed survey work.
The land is being acquired in accordance with the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.
India’s Largest Airport
NIA is the upcoming greenfield airport at Jewar in Gautam Buddha Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh.
It will enhance domestic as well as international connectivity to and from Delhi NCR, Noida and Western UP.
The airport, billed to be India’s largest upon completion, will be developed in four phases, after which it would have an annual passenger capacity of 70 million and two terminal buildings, spread across an area of 5000 acres.
As per the concession agreement, the first phase for 12 million passengers per annum is to be completed and made operational by September 2024.
The Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a subsidiary of the Swiss firm Zurich Airport International AG (ZAIA) which is developing the airport, recently said the first phase of the mega aviation project is on schedule.
“We are on schedule to deliver the project as per the terms and conditions of the concession agreement,” Christoph Schnellmann, the chief executive officer of the YIAPL, told a press conference in Greater Noida on 10 November.
